Moving up the coast a bit from our last trip we were put on to a ‘new’ boat an hour up the coast from us, and as it worked out we had just sailed past a full moon and the wind was laying down in a generally constantly windy February in Guanacaste Costa Rica. We were greeted with a beautiful morning in papa del guyo bay.
We had some nice spinning rods on board, some acura’s and some new shimano stellas and after a short stop for some fresh watermelon and some fuel we were off and within minutes found ourselves a couple little bait balls. After harassing the small fish for bit and getting a couple of greenjacks and a black tuna we made a good hour and a half trek up through the santa rosa national park and out around the tip. The ride was bumpy in the 27′ panga boat, but the scenery and beer made up for it!
Once we found ourselves out past the park we started trolling our greenjacks for Roosters and had a nice 35lb one hit right next to the boat, and later we would have a big 70 pounder rock the boat a bit while taking some line a few times, but ultimately coming on board to smile for the camera! We made our way up the coast where the fun continued while we fished some big poppers seeing two big snappers come from their caves and an entire top water fight in clear water — a site worth seeing again and again!
Finally we caught up with a good sized amberjack while jigging about 80 or so feet down, check out the video!:
Good Fishing!
