Semporna Stop Shark Finning Petition!
From time to time we bring you causes that make a difference or should be heard! This one is from the guys at Stop Shark Finning
Semporna is an area in the state of Sabah, Malaysia, that is home to one of the most diverse marine habitats in the world. There is a project underway to make Semporna into an 8,000 kilometre square shark sanctuary. This project has already been approved by the local Semporna government, but it will soon be submitted to the Sabah State government, and the conservation group behind the project would like to submit a petition with at least 10,000 signatures on it to show the level of international support for the sanctuary.
So please support this shark sanctuary by signing the petition and sharing it with as many of your contacts as possible. You can make a real difference here!
You can also see the project’s facebook page here.
A blog has been posted about the project here.
Stop Shark Finning Petition – Oct 22 deadline!
This comes to us via our friends over at http://www.StopSharkFinning.net — While most fisherman don’t enjoy a shark eating their bait, hook, or 200lb tuna finning is a brutal act that we should work to put a stop to

**UPDATE it appears the petition passed!
Over the last year several States in the US have successfully passed legislation that bans the trade in shark fins. This is generally considered to be the most effective way to stamp out this vile and irresponsible trade that has been responsible for so much suffering and such a drastic drop in shark numbers across the world.
Now the pressure is on to implement a nationwide ban in the United States. A petition has been started on the White House website to this end. Once the target 5,000 signatures has been reached, White House staff will review it, ensure it’s sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response. The petition is just the start – but we need to reach the target 5,000 by October 22nd! Please click here to view and sign the petition!
