Penn Jigmaster Reel 500L
The Penn Jigmaster was one of the earliest designed casting reels from Penn and is still going strong as a favorite casting reel for anglers fishing the Albacore Day Boats on the West Coast, as well as Kingfish anglers in the Southeast. The Jigmaster features a quick take-apart feature that allows anglers to change spools (and line classes) while on the water. This little trick has saved more than one or two fishing trips for anglers, when the fish become line and leader shy, and scaling down of tackle is required. Needless to say, keeping a spare spool or two on the boat or in the tackle box is a great idea, and allows anglers to move up or down a line class in a matter of seconds.

Penn FTH25N Fathom Star Drag Reel

The Penn Fathom Star Drag, with the revolutionary Live Spindle design, is the most castable reel in the market place. The improved configuration allows the spool to spin independently of the spindle and pinion gear, which significantly reduces friction experienced from the extreme acceleration of the spool when casting. Other reels using a ”fixed spindle” design slow the rotation of the spool and reduce casting distance. Additionally the Live Spindle improves the retrieve of the reel because the spindle and pinion do not need to turn relative to each other during heavy loads, unlike a ”fixed spindle” reels that result in a difficult retrieve and erratic drag.

There has been much debate over whether a lever drag is better than a star drag on this style and size of reel. Through our expert team of professional anglers, designers and consultants we now sincerely believe that a star drag system is indeed preferable.However, our drag system is somewhat different to many reels currently available in the fact that we have been able to use our own unique high modulus drag washers (CDT) within the design. As we started with a clean sheet of paper we have also been able to increase the diameter of the drag washers to give a smoother and more proficient drag. Fully loaded the EOS 30 and EOS 50 will deliver a maximum 25 lb of drag.

With today’s latest braids having virtually nil stretch and extremely low diameter a highly proficient clutch is not only desirable but absolutely vital. This is why we have spent many hundreds of hours testing both in the workshop and in the field to ensure we have got it just right.Of course we have incorporated our specially formulated drag lubricant to ensure an instant pick up without any overload and a smooth transition, which is critical for this types of reel. A small but very important feature is our freespool clicker mechanism. This allows the angler to troll a live or dead bait with minimum resistance to a taking fish whilst keeping the line under control, it also eliminates the chance of overruns on a take.Both of the EOS models are made from a one piece cage and two side plates all of which are machined from high quality aluminum stock. Stainless steel gears and high quality bearings help to deliver all of the power that can be exerted through the reel.

The EOS 30 has a gear ratio of 4.7:1 and weighs in at 550g/19.4 oz.

The EOS 50 also has a gear ratio of 4.7:1 weighing 600g/21.2 oz.

Although these are not out and out casting reels a centrifugal breaking system helps to eliminate any overruns. The reel comes complete with three weights of break blocks and a rock steady reel clamp with an incorporated lanyard tether point. Both reels are furnished with ultra strong aluminum handles with large EVA Powergrip Pro handle which has two positions for higher speed retrieve or extra cranking power.
