This video is the 3rd video from our Epic Costa Rican Fishing excursion, we had a lot of excitement and fun with big pacific sails and some different species of fish, but more on that after the video:
From Quepos down the pacific coast, dominical, the Osa Peninsula, Puerto Jimenez, and finally Golfito, we fished it all! You can even see the crossing of the rio Sierpe on a barge pushed my a tiny little boat & motor, this was the experience! Enjoy, Share, and let us know what you think!
Some mornings when you go out fishing, there is something almost palpable in the air, everything feels alive, maybe its the day or the pre-fishing beer toast, but whatever the catalyst these days seem rife with action. It just so happened to be one of those days as the apparently mild rainy season was going to continue to produce great conditions. As the sun crested over Golfito Dulce bathing everything in a warm morning light the bait were visible all around the bay in perfectly still waters.
By the 7 am, low tide, we’d made our way to Pavonas Beach. Pavonas is a popular surf destination as it boasts one of the worlds longest breaks, the rocks around Pavonas also house some nice fish it would seem! Free-spooling sardines we soon found ourselves in nearly constant double and triple hook ups with Roosters, Snappers, but mostly Corvina (Or White Sea Bass). It was one after another, until we decided to give them a break and go find some other prey because as our captain for the day Lindor Jr. put it, “We’re not eating chicken tonight!” We certainly weren’t, and we’d run out of sardines so it was on to different waters
The rest of the day was a lot of catch and release as the crystal clear waters of the southern pacific Costa Rican coast served up fish after fish. The Osa peninsula really makes you feel like your in Jurassic Park’s backyard — And its actually not far off as parts of the movie were filmed just 60 miles out in the Pacific around Isle De Coco. The ride home brought us face to face with a rather ominous looking storm, but a good soaking and a bit of run around later and we were back safe and warm in Golfito.
Fast Forward to the next day — Katie, the owner of our perfectly situated condo just above Banana Bay Marina in Golfito was kind enough to let us throw a little pot luck fish fry complete with tray after tray of freshly cooked white sea bass! Add a few bottles of your favorite liquor, good company, and some excellent side dishes and you had quite the recipe for a great party and a good topping on the cake to an excellent day of fishing! Thanks Katie, and Thanks Lindor and Mauricio!
